Beyond School

PETROTECH 09

On the 13th of January 2009, we, the students of class 11(science stream) attended PETROTECH 2009 held at Pragati Maidan. This exhibition, organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and PETROTECH Society is a prestigious platform for the global hydrocarbon industry to exchange ideas on petroleum economics, security, sustainability and environmental concerns, emerging technologies, processes, etc., and chart new directions for the industry. Various multinational corporations like Petronas, Cairn, British Petroleum etc. had set up stalls at the venue with their latest technology on display. At many of these stalls presentations were conducted by professionals working with the company and as a result we got an insight on how the hydrocarbon industry functions and what career options it has to offer. Most appealing, however, were the interactive demonstrations and quizzes at the stalls. All in all it was a very enriching experience as we were able to learn so much outside the boundaries of school. On behalf all the students of 11B and 11C I am very grateful to the school and our science department for organizing this educational trip for us.

A Truly Moving Experience

On 13.01.09 we the students of class 11A visited Deep Ashram situated at Gurgaon. It is an orphanage of spastic children and is run by the society of the Missionary Brothers of charity of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The members of this society vow to god to live in voluntary poverty celebrate chastity in humble obedience and give whole-hearted free service to the poorest of the poor irrespective of colour, caste, religion or nationality.
The main aim of this centre is to give whole-hearted free service to the last, least and the lost ones in our society.
After a very warm welcome from the residents we were taken to the church and then to their dormitories where we were able to interact with them.
We tried to evaluate and understand the problems and difficulties faced by them. It was indeed an emotionally charged experience which touched our hearts leaving an imprint of this facet of the reality of human life.
Members of this society have indeed undertaken a gigantic task of serving the humanity.
I would like to thank our principal Rev. Bro. Dominic for giving us a great opportunity of learning about reality of life by visiting such places.

To conclude, I would like to say,
If you and I try to put together our human resources then we could do much more for them; plus many more people could be helped, many more children could be clothed, fed and educated. Let us remember the little poem:-

Little Drops of Water,
Little grains of Sand,
Make a mighty ocean.
